Christine & Gonzalo - Elopement - Manitoulin Island Wedding

Christine and Gonzalo had a very intimate wedding with their closest family members there to share the day. They chose to have their wedding on Manitoulin Island. They had been vacationing at that spot for years and decided that was the perfect location to have their wedding. If you’ve never been to the Island you really must go. It is so beautiful there are so many beautiful lakes, waterfalls and trees. If you do go don’t just blindly trust your GPS. I will post a video of the crazy route that my GPS led me down LOL  It started out as a gravel road not unusual for the area, but the further I got the more narrow the road got until finally it was simply a trail in the woods that I suspect was only used for hikers and 4 wheelers. At a certain point you have to just give in and trust that the GPS does indeed know the correct route because you are so far in that there is no turning back. There wasn’t even enough space to turn my van around if I had wanted to. Lol I would have had to reverse out for several kilometers. At one point near the trail ended in a fork in a clearing in the forest lol I just had to pic a direction and go for it. Check out the dash cam video guaranteed to make you not trust your GPS!  Ha! Life is always an adventure when you are a location photographer in the North. I will let you know I did make it there on time, in fact about 20 minutes early. I asked the guests when I got to the location if there was a way to get there on paved roads and they all laughed and said of course how did you get here?

The ceremony was in the yard at the cottage overlooking the lake surrounded by trees.  After the ceremony we went for a short walk down the street and found this amazing field and a group of large cedar trees.  While we were doing the photos the sky darkened and we knew it was only a matter of time before the sky’s opened up. Christine and Gonzalo were troupers, we ended up finishing their session in a light drizzle, but it was starting to come down a little more steadily the long we were out. We managed to make it back to the tent just before the downpour started.  It didn’t last long like most downpours, fast and furious.  We managed to pop out in the light drizzle for the final photograph of them on the dock, which is one of my favourites from the day.

Chelsey & Jo - Elopement - Sudbury Wedding

Chelsey and Jo had a sweet little courthouse wedding with their immediate family.                         I absolutely loved the little denim jacket that she wore over her short white dress.                      They were looking to have some outdoorsy photos for their formals and it had to have easy access for the grooms mum.  I immediately knew where we had to go!  This ticked all of their boxes and kept us on schedule. Sudbury is the best for finding wild looking places within the city. Everywhere you turn there is a lake or a forest. Look at this little slice of heaven 5 minutes from the restaurant they were going to for their first meal as a married couple.

Ariel & Brandon - Summer Engagement Photos - Azilda, Greater Sudbury

Ariel and I hatched a plan to do an engagement session like the ones you see on all the wedding blogs.  We decided a picnic on a beach would be fabulous and romantic. So we both agreed on meeting at Windy Lake Provincial park, the rain clouds were looming overhead.  When we arrived we discovered that the park was closed for the season so we quickly came up with another plan, we were racing the storm. Without much of a thought I suggested a field near where I live. Sometimes those improvisations make the best photos.

We combined things we both had around our houses to style this session, heck the table I pulled out of my living room and took it with me LOL.

Cathy at Fleurs Magique was amazing enough to help us out with the beautiful flowers.

The rain clouds were making it darker and darker we had to work fast to set it up and shoot it before sunset. I enlisted the help of my husband Ron to help us set up and take it all down after.   All 4 of us hustled our butts off to pull this off.  The results were amazing!

I absolutely love getting the chance to collaborate on a couples session and make their dream Photographs come to life.

Ariel & Brandon - Sudbury Engagement Photography

Ariel and Brandon are such a goofy fun loving couple.  They are so much fun to work with.  Ariel has an infectious laugh and isn't afraid to be silly. Even though Brandon tries to resist her antics even he cracks and starts laughing along.  We had a blast shooting this session, there were a ton of jokes and sarcastic remarks which is a perfect fit for my sense of humor.

Ariel used to be a competitive skater so she really wanted to incorporate winter and skating.  We had a relatively strange winter the skate path was only open for a few weeks and we couldn't make that work so by the time we could schedule their engagement session it was a rainy day and we knew that this was spring this was going to be it. No more chance for snowy pictures. Little did we know we would still have snow in April! Because of the rain and the snow melting it created this ethereal thick fog that I was dying to shoot it.  Here is Ariel and Brandon's Foggy outdoor winter engagement session.

Amanda & Shevons Wikwemikong Wedding - Manitoulin Island Ontario

I traveled to Manitoulin Island to Wikwemikong first Nations Reservation to photograph this Wedding. The Island is always so beautiful I feel like the light there is different from anywhere else I’ve ever been.

Amanda & Shevon’s Wedding ceremony was held in the ruins of an old school they had Native drummers as well as a steel drum player. It was a cool fusion of cultures.  My favorite part of the ceremony was that the groom didn’t hold back any of his happiness his face shows his happiness loud and clear.

After the ceremony their reception was held at the Manitoulin Convention center. They opened the celebration with a traditional native dancer, dancing to the beat of the drums and singing.  It was truly an experience. The drums have an incredible way of touching your soul and making you feel that you are truly part of something bigger.  I am honored to experience traditions like this.

Cynthia and Jason's Radisson Hotel Wedding - Sudbury Ontario

Cynthia and Jason's Wedding took place in Sudbury Ontario.  It was a beautiful Fuchsia and black themed affair.

We did a mix of urban and park like photos for these two. Then we were off to the Reception.Where the traditional French Canadian Sock dance took place.  Now I admit when I first moved to Sudbury this was new and strange thing to me lol so I will explain the tradition for those of you that are as lost as I was.   This is where the unmarried older sibling has to wear the ugliest pair of socks known to man and dance in front of all of the guests who then throw money onto the floor for the new couple. For a more in depth description here is a link. There are even video’s of this on you tube go check it out.

Winter Engagement Photography Session - Sudbury Ontario

People in the North Love the snow and winter.  These two true Northerners were no different.  Kathleen and Blaine love the winter, its their favorite time of the year.  They wanted to incorporate winter into their Engagement session.  I took them for a little walk down a path in the bush to do some of the shots.  I got them all set and was ready to take a photo as I was backing up to get the perfect shot I stepped off of the path and sunk up to my waist in the snow.  lol They were laughing, I was laughing, the look on my face must have been priceless.  The snow filled my boots it even went down the back of my pants.  I was freezing but you can't help but laugh when these things happen. lolI had to pass my camera to Blaine while I tried to wriggle myself free of the snow trying to ensure I didn't lose a boot in the process.  Each step I took towards the trail I sunk in again, filling my clothing with fresh cold snow until I finally reached the packed trail. Clumsily, half crawling half rolling I manged to mount the summit that was the trail.  I was laughing uncontrollably at this point as were they.  Luckily this happened at the end of the session so we could all head inside to warm up.  But enough laughing at me for now, here are a few of the beautiful winter engagement photos we captured that day.

Jess & Mike's Brick Works Engagement Photo Session - Toronto

I had a fabulous time with Jess and Mike while doing this session. Even though the weather was 5 degrees and raining we still had a ton of fun.  The Brick Works is such a cool location for photos there are so many different looks in one location.

I love shooting in new places it always heightens my creativity.  I thought I would try something a new with this couple, so I incorporated a little Video of them and made a little fusion slideshow.  Here is the reveal of my first fusion engagement shoot.

Winnie and Dan's Military Backyard Wedding - Port Rowan Ontario Canada

Winnie and Dan met On New Year’s Eve December 31 2011 at a bar in London Ontario.

Both had planned a quiet night at home, but had changed their mind last minute.

Dan had caught Winnie’s eye several times that night. She told her friend that she thought he was hot and that friend ran across the bar and told Dan who took a chance and approached her and started a conversation.  They saw each other every day for the next 9 days when Dan asked Winnie to be his girlfriend. What he forgot to mention was that he was being deployed to Afghanistan for 8 months. But Winnie thought he was worth it and told him she would wait for him.

Dan is a captain in the infantry, Winnie and Dan were only able to talk to each other through imessage and emails but there were times when they wouldn’t talk for days because the internet was down or his base was on lock down.  They only heard each others voice 5 times during that 8 months.

It was almost a year since they had first met and Winnie found herself on a Train headed to Ottawa to be there when he returned home from Afghanistan.  Winnie says “I remember it was so exciting but a bit awkward to begin with. We had been dating for 11 months and he had be gone for 8 of them. We had mainly gotten to know each other through messages. But after his first day back it felt like he had never left.”  A year after his return he proposed to Winnie

they were married August   23rd   On Winnie's Parents farm in Port Rowan Ontario.   Winnie and Dan were married in the same gazebo as her previous 4 siblings which had been built by her father.  Her oldest brother preformed the ceremony and all of her nieces and nephews were part of the Wedding party.

Her cake was by Hey cupcake in London Ontario

Stéphanie and Jack: Brystons on the Park Wedding, Copper Cliff

Stephanie and Jack where great to work with from start to finish, designing her invitations and taking their WeddingPhotographs. They has a small intimate Friday evening Wedding. I love Friday Weddings! Everyone seems so relaxed.  The lighting and that time of day is my favorite! I love being able to use that early evening light to make Romantic images. The location in Copper Cliff is so versitle as well, it always looks beautiful.

Stéphanie was a beautiful smily bride, Jack was kind of silly and funny and their bridal party was up for anything! You tell that from the photographs I captured that day. Stéphanie wanted something a little different as well she had asked me for an outdoor night shot.  These are some of my favorite images from her Wedding. They are also some of my favorite to shoot. I get to be completely creative in my lighting and using it to create a mood for the images.

Enough talk. Here are the images.

Doris and Rudy: The First Sudbury Wedding of the Season.

This couple was a dream to work with!  Their friends and family where Amazing. They where dressed to the nines and ready to celebrate.   Doris was so easy going, Whenever something didnt go exactly to plan she would just say “ Well, thats interesting” and she would go on about what ever she was doing.

She knew that the day would go on just fine if everything didnt go just right to plan or schedule.

Rudy was equally as easy going his groomsman where all about goofing off and making everyone laugh. You could tell what a tight knit group of  Friends they where.  You could tell by the way Rudy and Doris looked at each other that they where totally in the moment and loving every minute of it.

Here are some of the Photographs taken at Bell Park and the United Steel Workers Hall in Sudbury.

I love being a Photographer in Sudbury, mainly because of couples like this.
