Ariel & Brandon - Summer Engagement Photos - Azilda, Greater Sudbury

Ariel and I hatched a plan to do an engagement session like the ones you see on all the wedding blogs.  We decided a picnic on a beach would be fabulous and romantic. So we both agreed on meeting at Windy Lake Provincial park, the rain clouds were looming overhead.  When we arrived we discovered that the park was closed for the season so we quickly came up with another plan, we were racing the storm. Without much of a thought I suggested a field near where I live. Sometimes those improvisations make the best photos.

We combined things we both had around our houses to style this session, heck the table I pulled out of my living room and took it with me LOL.

Cathy at Fleurs Magique was amazing enough to help us out with the beautiful flowers.

The rain clouds were making it darker and darker we had to work fast to set it up and shoot it before sunset. I enlisted the help of my husband Ron to help us set up and take it all down after.   All 4 of us hustled our butts off to pull this off.  The results were amazing!

I absolutely love getting the chance to collaborate on a couples session and make their dream Photographs come to life.

Annie & Kevin - Anniversary portrait session - The Donovan Sudbury

Annie and Kevin came to me to book a couples session. It was going to be an anniversary present from Kevin to Annie. He booked everything for her, hair, make up and then a party afterwards.  I thought that it was such a sweet gift. As it turned out he decided to do it for her because she hadn’t liked any of there wedding photos.  Everytime I hear someone say that they didn’t like their wedding photos it breaks my heart.  Yet it is probably the thing I hear most often from people about their wedding. “It was great but I wish I had better photos”

I asked them if there was somewhere special to them somewhere that they had in mind for their photos.  They immediately came to the conclusion that the Donovan was the place for them, so we ran with it!

I had so much fun with these guys, Annie’s sarcasm and Kevin’s self deprecating humour had us all in stitches for the entirety of the session. We found a little slice of nature in the city and then went on to fully utilize the cool feel of the Donvan.

Ariel & Brandon - Sudbury Engagement Photography

Ariel and Brandon are such a goofy fun loving couple.  They are so much fun to work with.  Ariel has an infectious laugh and isn't afraid to be silly. Even though Brandon tries to resist her antics even he cracks and starts laughing along.  We had a blast shooting this session, there were a ton of jokes and sarcastic remarks which is a perfect fit for my sense of humor.

Ariel used to be a competitive skater so she really wanted to incorporate winter and skating.  We had a relatively strange winter the skate path was only open for a few weeks and we couldn't make that work so by the time we could schedule their engagement session it was a rainy day and we knew that this was spring this was going to be it. No more chance for snowy pictures. Little did we know we would still have snow in April! Because of the rain and the snow melting it created this ethereal thick fog that I was dying to shoot it.  Here is Ariel and Brandon's Foggy outdoor winter engagement session.

Amanda & Shevon's Wikwemikong Engagement Photos – Manitoulin Island

This was my first time ever traveling to Manitoulin Island. It was a beautiful drive from Sudbury there were stretches of road that were so beautiful, you would round a bend as see the amazing rock faces, the wildness and the rugged beauty of the scenery took my breath away. Im not surprised that this landscape inspired the group of seven and their bodies of work.  I was inspired by all of this and I hadn’t even gotten to the island yet.  When I reached the island it was like a totally different world there were flat pastures, Beautiful lake views and speed limits that allowed you to take it all in.

The location that was selected for Amanda and Shevon’s Engagement pictures was incredible and had a lot of history associated with it.  The Ruins are the outter brick walls of a building with row upon row of windows.  I absolutely loved the location.  Here are a few of my favorite photos from their engagement session.

Winter Engagement Photography Session - Sudbury Ontario

People in the North Love the snow and winter.  These two true Northerners were no different.  Kathleen and Blaine love the winter, its their favorite time of the year.  They wanted to incorporate winter into their Engagement session.  I took them for a little walk down a path in the bush to do some of the shots.  I got them all set and was ready to take a photo as I was backing up to get the perfect shot I stepped off of the path and sunk up to my waist in the snow.  lol They were laughing, I was laughing, the look on my face must have been priceless.  The snow filled my boots it even went down the back of my pants.  I was freezing but you can't help but laugh when these things happen. lolI had to pass my camera to Blaine while I tried to wriggle myself free of the snow trying to ensure I didn't lose a boot in the process.  Each step I took towards the trail I sunk in again, filling my clothing with fresh cold snow until I finally reached the packed trail. Clumsily, half crawling half rolling I manged to mount the summit that was the trail.  I was laughing uncontrollably at this point as were they.  Luckily this happened at the end of the session so we could all head inside to warm up.  But enough laughing at me for now, here are a few of the beautiful winter engagement photos we captured that day.

Jess & Mike's Brick Works Engagement Photo Session - Toronto

I had a fabulous time with Jess and Mike while doing this session. Even though the weather was 5 degrees and raining we still had a ton of fun.  The Brick Works is such a cool location for photos there are so many different looks in one location.

I love shooting in new places it always heightens my creativity.  I thought I would try something a new with this couple, so I incorporated a little Video of them and made a little fusion slideshow.  Here is the reveal of my first fusion engagement shoot.

April and Josh Engagement Photos – Onaping Falls Ontario

I ran two contests Last year for free Engagement Sessions.  One of the winners of this contest had already won an Engagement session from another photographer. So she decided to gift her session to her friends April and Josh, who were also getting married.

I hit it off with these two right away! We went to Onaping Falls for their Engagement session. We had a great time even though we were battling the mosquito’s , they were so thick that we had to work fast and keep moving so that we wouldn’t be carried off by them LOL .  I’ve never seen so many bugs in my life! It was yet another truly Northern first for me.  But we had fun anyways and got some really great Photographs. It was well worth the bug bites. Here are a few shots from their Engagement session

Cynthia and Jason – Park Engagement Photos

Cynthia and Jason are getting married this summer, they are a cute couple that are always smiling We went to a small park where there is a small creek. As we approached the rocks along the creek we were greeted with a great slap on the water. There was a beaver pulling along a large branch and he wasn’t happy to see us LOL.  The fact that Im from southern Ontario I was totally in awe, I have never seen a beaver so close. We all had a laugh about how fascinated I was by this little experience.  It made for a great icebreaker to keep everything upbeat and fun.  Here are a few shots from their Engagement Session.

Lagoon City Engagement Photography Session

I was given the opportunity to travel for this Engagement Photography Session. Sarah is a Nurse and Graham is a contractor and they share a love of Boating.  They keep their Boat, a Trojan as I am told by Graham in a lovely spot called Lagoon City just outside of Orilla.  We spent the day traveling around the area stopping to photograph in several different locations.  We even had lunch on the boat out by a small island in Lake Simcoe.  I had so much fun spending the day with these two.

Do you and your fiancé have a shared interest? Or just want to have something different from all of your friends Engagement Photos consider traveling to a cool location like the streets of downtown Toronto if you are from Sudbury or a hike or boat ride in the Muskoka’s if you’re from Toronto.  It can be like a date day for you and your partner and what a way to capture the experience! Have your photographer capture the day for you. It will make for great moments to be treasured for years to come.
